It is sometimes difficult to explain what Snapcap is in a generic way that still leaves the listener or reader with an immediate understanding of how it can apply to the scenarios in their specific environment or business. The reason for that is because it is a bit like a swiss army knife that can be used in multiple ways to solve multiple problems within a particular set of problem spaces. For example, a swiss army knife can be used to titan a screw, cut a hose pipe, pick up a hair, pick your teeth, and a very long list of ad hoc small problems often encountered in daily life. The more you use it, the more use you find for it. Of course, it does not help to solve all problems, but in a squeeze, it can be used in very unconventional ways, such as amputating an arm to save your life, as Aron Ralston famously did in 2003.
Similarly, when it comes to data capturing, Snapcap is just such a multipurpose tool. It is a software platform that allows the problem solver to easily create solutions for very many different needs and situations. It intends to replace almost every instance where a pen is used to fill in information on a paper form. It can be used to do property inspections, construction site safety violation observations, recording of mining safety incidents, vehicle damage assessments, interactive training material, taking of restaurant orders (both by the waiter and by the customer at home ordering takeaways), record keeping of expense slips, updating of policy information, stock takes, asset auditing, reporting of potholes or water leaks, good old surveys of any kind, and so on and so forth. The list is literally endless. And it is for this reason that it is possible that when a person hears all of that, it could feel a little overwhelming and abstract. Usually people identify much better when we demonstrate how Snapcap can address a very specific problem relevant to them in a specific way. However, often it is the case that we do not even know which problems are relevant in the discussion, and one first has to go through a process of discovering these before seeing if Snapcap is a good fit. However, just like in the case of the swiss army knife, we mostly find that one our customers start understanding how Snapcap can be applied to a certain category of problem, that the ideas start multiplying and that often many more places are discovered which Snapcap can solve than initially thought.
A high level overview can go like this:
- You, the client, registers on Snapcap
- Optionally build out your organisational structure.
- Add one or more data capturer users.
- Build a Capture Definition (a set of forms with fields, steps, validation and logic).
- Publish that form to a specific set of data capturers.
- The data capturers receive a SMS or Email with a link that takes them right into the app, without having to install anything via an app store and they are already logged in.
- Data capturers then start new captures, whether they are connected to the internet or not, and submit them when they are complete. Hundreds of captures can be taken off line, including high definition photos, and when they get back to WIFI or mobile data, the captures are uploaded.
- Once uploaded, captures can then be viewed online, exported via customizable Excel reporting, analysed and visualised in bulk, or integrated to external systems.
